You may have tried it: standing very still, very quiet in a natural habitat and waiting for some animal to appear. The wait may have seemed endless and difficult, but once you’ve done it, once you’re able to watch a wild creature casually wandering around you, you know that you will never forget the moment.
That miraculous moment is what is captured in this series of photographs, the best way to portray wildlife. It is said by none other than the Natural History Museum, Londonwhich holds the awards every year Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPY), which will celebrate its 60th edition in 2024.
It seems that to celebrate, the sixtieth contest has attracted a record number of participants, with almost 60,000 registrations of photographers of all ages and experience levels from 117 different countries. Among all of them, the ones you will see below are the ones that have obtained honorable mentions; The overall winners will be announced on October 8.
In addition to these images, many other equally striking entries from the contest will be on display at the South Kensington Museum on Friday 11 October until Sunday 29 June 2025. The exhibition will also embark on a tour of the UK and the rest of the world to “inspire millions of people to appreciate and conserve the natural world“.
