Highlights of September of Lithuania’s Season in France 2024.
An emerging Lithuanian artist on the international scene, Eglė Budvytytė addresses the major issues of our contemporary world. Her exhibition at the Plateau will form an ecosystem integrating, around a main video, a sculptural installation, spaces for contemplation, exchanges, as well as human and plant life.
For this project, Eglė Budvytytė draws inspiration from the work of Lithuanian anthropologist and archaeologist Marija Gimbutas, a leading figure in research on the Neolithic period and the discovery of matriarchal practices. The film installation will explore the artist’s favorite themes of the body in relation to landscape, interspecies relations, regeneration, growth, decomposition and female power.
Shot in a village in southern Lithuania, the film will highlight traditional songs of women and performers in forest landscapes. The artist will offer a personal look at these traditions crossed by ancient cultures. The soundtrack will be essential, exploring Lithuanian folk songs linked to land practices. A collaboration with a local ceramicist will create a sculptural installation in clay, integrated into the landscape of the film and shaping the exhibition.
