Mexico City. The Federal Judiciary Councilor (CJF), Mónica López Benítez, considered that all political and social actors who support the reform “should reflect and allow for a true dialogue so that they know who we are, what we do and how we do it, and in this way have a strengthened system, but for that we have to sit down not only with the Judicial Branch of the Federation, the Judicial Council, but with all the institutions involved.”
The judge joined the demonstration that rank-and-file and trusted workers were holding at the headquarters of the Judiciary located in Insurgentes Sur.
“My colleagues who make up the Judicial Branch of the Federation are defending the independence and autonomy of our institution.”
He said that despite the protests and work stoppages, the Council “must continue working because we have to deal with a series of situations that cannot be stopped. We have pending issues, simply, that all Mexicans throughout the Republic have guaranteed legal services.”
Workers from the Prisma headquarters, located a few blocks away, in front of the La Bombilla Metrobus station, as well as from San Lázaro and Revolución Avenue, the latter located in the Alvaro Obregón municipality, joined the protest.
Most of them carry signs in their hands that say “We are not the opposition, we serve the nation! The impartial judge is a career judicial officer! We are not hired, we are lawyers!
Judge Adalberto Eduardo Herrera González, assigned to the Fifth Collegiate Court for Civil Matters of the First Circuit, stated that they will continue to fight to reverse the reform of the Judicial Branch.
“We will fight until the last moment. We will not let ourselves be defeated. The dialogue tables were a simulation. There is no desire on the part of the authorities to listen to us in order to propose something different. The central core of the reform is to end the judicial career,” he lamented.
