Corona protective masks were necessary in many areas. There are still around 2.7 million of them in the country’s warehouse – significantly fewer than a year ago.
The masks in the warehouse therefore have a best-before date between August and October of next year. The ministry was unable to quantify how many masks had already had to be disposed of because their shelf life had expired. “Due to different procurement periods and batches, it is only possible to determine the exact number of products disposed of with great effort,” said a ministry spokeswoman.
Masks have long been companions in the pandemic
It continued: “Due to different procurement prices and the constantly expiring shelf life, we cannot make any statement about the current value of the disposed mask stock.”
In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, too, protective masks were part of everyday life for a long period of time during the coronavirus pandemic. Masks were sometimes necessary for months in various areas – for example in shops or on buses and trains.
