Lightning struck the yard in Turku and Salo – 2024-08-30 18:16:45

A native of Salo Oskari Tulonen and his family went to the front yard of his house on Friday evening to marvel at the thunder.

– We thought it would be nice to look at the sky when there was lightning, but then it was a bit of a surprise, Tulonen says.

In the video taken by Tulos, you can see and hear how lightning strikes very close to the yard.

The family’s three-year-old was excited by the exciting phenomenon.

– He just shouted that it was fun, fun, and would have liked to go and bounce on the terrace even more, but we had to take the whole group inside at that point, Tulonen laughs.

Tulonen went to investigate the yard, but there was no visible damage to the yard from the lightning strike. At the end of the evening, the family plans to watch the thunder and rain from inside.

Turku: Lightning struck a light pole

Lives in Turku Tiia Kuusniemi was in his backyard on Friday watching a thunderstorm. He sat on the balcony and photographed the approaching thunderstorm front, which had already occurred earlier on Friday.

– I thought that I won’t get anything on the video, so be it, and I was just about to turn off the video. Then it just hit that. It’s probably 50 meters from here to that light pole, says Kuusniemi.

The light pole clicked into darkness, and Kuusniemi says he hurried inside. He went back to check that nothing was burning.

– I had to go see that birch tree, when it looks a bit black from here. The video shows that it (lightning) would hit the lamp through the birch. But when it started to thunder again, I didn’t want to go.

Kuusniemi says that he saw ball lightning as a small child.

– I just remember that there was something bright and round, and later it turned out that it was ball lightning. I don’t really remember much about it. But I’ve never been so close that lightning strikes almost next to me, says Kuusniemi.
