Most of the goal achieved. This is what the UEFA ranking looks like after the qualifiers

Each victory of a Polish club in this year’s European Cup qualifiers was valued at 0.250 points in the UEFA national ranking. Thus, Thursday’s 1-0 wins of Legia Warsaw over Drita Gnjilane and 4-1 of Wisła Kraków over Cercle Brugge allowed to add 0.5 points to the PKO Ekstraklasa account.

The plan was not fully implemented without a good result for Jagiellonia Białystok in the match with Ajax. Adrian Siemieniec’s team lost to the team from the Netherlands for the second time. The spoils of Jagiellonia and Śląsk Wrocław in the entire qualifiers were 0.5 points each. Legia and Wisła did better in this aspect, because the team from Warsaw won 1.375 points, and Wisła – 1 point.

On Thursday, it was clarified how many Polish clubs will play in the league phase of the reformed European cups. They settled on two, and in both cases it will be the lowest-ranking Europa Conference League. Legia advanced to it, while Jagiellonia dropped to it from the Champions League qualifiers and through the Europa League qualifiers.

In the ranking for the seasons from 2020 to the current one, not much has changed since the start of the qualifiers. PKO Ekstraklasa, as it was, is still in 18th place. However, promotion looks more likely than relegation. It is closest to the Scottish league, to which PKO Ekstraklasa is only 0.675 points behind.

The situation in the ranking looks more interesting from the 2021 season. In it, the Polish league is in 16th place, one point behind the 15th Israeli league. If PKO Ekstraklasa were in the top “15” in the ranking, it could field two clubs in the Champions League qualifiers, one in the Europa League qualifiers and two in the Europa Conference League qualifiers in 2026.

The only way to advance is to consistently score points. This week, Polish teams achieved a better result than last week. The total score in the qualifiers is 3.375, which stands out positively against the background of other leagues.
