The 17th Summer Paralympic Games are starting. We are rooting for the White and Reds
28.08.2024
The 17th Summer Paralympic Games in Paris begin on Wednesday. The Polish national team consists of 84 athletes. Our athletes will compete in a record number of 15 out of 22 disciplines.
The standard-bearers of the Polish national team are shot putter Lucyna Kornobys and high jumper Maciej Lepiato. They will lead our team during the opening ceremony of the 17th Summer Paralympic Games in Paris on Wednesday, August 28.
“Wide Open Games” – this is the slogan of both the Paris Olympics and the Paralympics. For the first time in history, the games have a common logo. This is an expression of the vision of the organizers – sport is beyond divisions, and the Olympics and Paralympics are two sides of the same coin.
Record-breaking Polish national team
In the 17th Summer Paralympic Games, over 4,000 athletes from all over the world will take part. The Polish Paralympic team consists of 84 athletes – 41 women and 43 men. Nine of our athletes will start with the support of an assistant, pilot or guide.
The White and Reds will fight for medals in as many as 15 disciplines.
We have the largest number of representatives in para-athletics (26 athletes plus 2 guides), para-table tennis (11), para-swimming (9), para-fencing (7) and para-cycling (5 plus 3 guides).
The games that are just starting are amazing with their selection of sports arenas. Blind football at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, para-dressage in the gardens of Versailles or wheelchair fencing and para-taekwondo in the Grand Palais. And that’s not all. The medal of the Paris games includes an 18-gram iron fragment of the Eiffel Tower, from the numerous renovations of this symbol of the French capital.
At the previous Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo, the Polish team won 24 medals – 7 gold, 6 silver and 11 bronze. Since their first appearance in 1972, Poles have won a total of 798 medals in the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games.
We support the Polish Paralympians! Good luck in Paris.
