Table tennis doubles Grebe/Wolf move into final and play for gold

At the Paralympics in Paris, table tennis players Stephanie Grebe from Berlin and Juliane Wolf from Eisenhüttenstadt reached the doubles final. The German pair beat Merethe Tveiten and Aida Husic Dahlen 3-2 in a thrilling match and will now play for gold on Friday night (8pm).

The day of competition for Grebe, who has a prosthetic leg and plays with a tied arm, did not start well. After checking her racket shortly before the quarter-final match against France’s Morgan Caillaud and Lucie Hautière, the 36-year-old had to change her playing equipment and play with her second racket because the pimples too long.

The duel started with a 15-minute delay because Grebe had to scratch the second racket on her badge. The two Germans then won 3-1. “That was quite a sight,” she said with an ironic tone.

In the final, the two will now face the Chinese Huang Wenjuan and Jin Yucheng. “We’ve never played against these two before,” Grebe said. “We’ll see what’s in store for us. Let’s eat something now and then fall into bed dead.”
