ELSTAT: Just seven companies went bankrupt in the second quarter of 2024 – 2024-08-29 23:14:25

There were only 7 business bankruptcies in Greece during the second quarter of 2024, according to ELSTAT data, while registrations (starts of operation) reached 31,489.

In particular, the registrations of new businesses, for all sectors of the economy, in the second quarter of 2024 amounted to 31,489, showing an increase of 17.1% compared to the second quarter of 2023 which had reached 26,897 and a decrease of 19.5% in compared to the 1st quarter of 2024 which had risen to 39,128.

For the sectors of economic activity with the largest contribution to the total turnover, according to the data of the Statistical Register of Businesses of reference year 2021, the largest increase in the number of new business registrations, in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the second quarter of 2023, recorded in the sector “Accommodation and Catering Services Activities” (17.9%) and in the “Transport and Storage” sector (16.0%), while the largest decrease was recorded in the “Supply of Electricity, Natural Gas, Steam and Air Conditioning” (18.0%) and in the “Manufacturing” sector (5.7%).

Business bankruptcies, for all sectors of the economy for the second quarter of 2024 amounted to 7, while for the second quarter of 2023 they are not published for reasons of statistical confidentiality regarding the protection of the identity of the companies.

Registrations by region

The sectors of economic activity, in which the largest number of new business registrations were recorded, per Large Geographical Region of Greece, are:

  • Northern Greece: “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries”, with 1,630 entries out of a total of 7,573.
  • Central Greece: “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries”, with 2,271 entries out of a total of 7,427.
  • Attica: “Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities”, with 2,103 entries in total
    11.624.
  • Aegean Islands – Crete: “Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries”, with 1,384 entries out of a total of 4,865.

By category of legal form

The sectors of economic activity, in which the largest number of new business registrations were recorded, by category of Legal Form of business, are:

  • Individual Businesses: “Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing”, with 5,663 entries out of a total of 20,795.
  • Personal Businesses: “Accommodation and Catering Services Activities”, with 1,280 entries out of a total of 5,452.
  • Capital Enterprises: “Real Estate Management”, with 128 entries out of a total of 457.
  • Other Legal Forms: “Real Estate Management”, with 825 entries out of a total of 4,785.
