Galadriel in “The Rings of Power” season 2 on Prime Video.
TV SERIES – It’s time to get out your pointy ears, hairy feet, and bearded dwarf costume. Rings of Power returns this Thursday, August 29 on Prime Video. The prequel series of the Lord of the Rings a you Hobbit picks up pretty much where Season 1 left off. If you’re not a die-hard fan of Tolkien’s universe, or you have a short memory, a little recap is in order.
In 2022, season 1 of Rings of Power was released at the same time as House of the Dragon. To avoid it being eclipsed again this time, Prime Video has therefore waited until the end of season 2 of HOTD on Max before putting Galadriel, Elrond, Durin and Nori back in the saddle. Here we are. But where were we already?
Galadriel has discovered the truth
At the end of the season, after fighting and traveling alongside him, the elf Galadriel discovers that her friend Halbrand is not the descendant of a royal family of Men. The character played by Charlie Vickers is in reality… Sauron. All his actions of the season can thus be seen in a new light and particularly his chance meeting with Celebrimbor whom he helps to forge the Elven rings of power. At the end of season 1, his plan is in motion since the first three rings of power (out of the twenty planned) have already been forged and are waiting to find owners.

The Stranger Goes on an Adventure
The mysterious stranger discovered by Nori after a meteorite crash has regained the power of speech. After a fight against the three mysterious veiled figures all dressed in white, he turns out to be a magician, an Istar, and not a Maia (like Sauron). After following the Piévelus in their transhumance for a while and rediscovering his powers, he decides to go his own way and follow the stars to the kingdom of Rhûn, accompanied by the courageous Nori. Season 2 will have to confirm whether it is, as many viewers assume, Gandalf the Grey, or an unknown magician.
The Mystery of the Orb
Another of the story arcs of season 1 takes place in Númenor, where Men live who benefit from a rare longevity. Eärien, the youngest daughter of Elendil and sister of Isildur, witnesses the death of the old king who reveals to her the existence of an orb that can predict the future, a Palantír (like that of Saruman). The young girl lifts the sheet that covers it, and has a vision.
At the same time, his brother Isildur, who had gone to fight the Orcs in Middle-earth with Galadriel, went missing after the eruption of the volcano Orodruin (Mountain of Destiny). During the war, Míriel, the Queen of Númenor, lost her sight.
Elrond et Durin
Elrond, emissary to the Dwarves of the mountain of Khazad-Dûm (the mines of Moria) asks his friend Durin IV, the king’s son, to provide him with precious mithril, without which the elves will not be able to survive. Mithril, in addition to its resistance and lightness, contains the light of the “tree of life”. After bitter and fruitless negotiations with King Durin III, the two friends decide to exploit the vein in secret, unknowingly disturbing the precious balance of the mine. Mine in which the terrifying monster Balrog seems to be awakening.

Mordor expands
In addition to the return of Sauron, evil is spreading across Middle-earth. Adar, the fallen and disfigured elf, leads his army of Orcs with an iron fist. The elf Arondir and the human widow Bronwyn manage to temporarily repel the Orcs thanks to the army led by Galadriel but cannot prevent the invasion and transformation of the Southern Lands, eaten away by a mysterious evil that affects animals. Mordor extends its hold. Captured by Galadriel, Adar manages to escape.
This season 2 of Rings of Power will therefore have to answer many questions. But we might as well prepare ourselves for them, they will not all find their answers in the coming months. Indeed, the Amazon Prime Video series has a total project of five seasons to unfold among other things: the rise to power of Sauron during the Second Age, his hold on Mordor and Men, the fall of the Dwarves, and the war that will see Isildur undo his ring of supreme power.
