Cerro Porteño, after a first half without any surprises, managed to prevail against a Nacional that came within striking distance of a tie but was unable to achieve its goal of adding points at La Nueva Olla.
THE MATCH. Cerro Porteño was superior in the first half and managed to turn that into a scoreboard with goals from Francisco Da Costa and Diego Churín.
In the second half, Nacional scored from the penalty spot after a controversial penalty called by Blas Romero, at the request of the VAR, for an alleged handball by Eduardo Brock. Orlando Gaona Lugo was in charge of the penalty, firing a powerful shot to score the goal.
Nacional hardly threatened Jean’s goal anymore and Cerro Porteño suffered the uncertainty of the final result almost undeservedly since they had chances to finish the match.
The victory for the Blaugrana allows them to temporarily take over the lead in the Clausura tournament with 17 points. Nacional finished fourth with 12. Olimpia could regain the lead if they beat Tacuary on Thursday.
Next date, the ninth of the Clausura tournament, Cerro Porteño will visit Guaraní and Nacional will receive Tacuary.
