Mexico City. This time there were no surprises. The 41st edition of the Mexico City International Marathon was dominated by Kenya from start to finish.

Edwin Kiprop (2:10.36h), Leonard Langat (2:11.30h) and Francis Cheruiyot (2:11.35h) took the first three places in the traditional route that started at Ciudad Universitaria and finished at the capital’s Zócalo.
On a morning with benevolent weather, the runners began their route at six in the morning passing through avenues such as Insurgentes, Ejército Nacional, Reforma and 20 de noviembre.

Supported by dozens of fans who gathered in the streets, the African marathoners took the lead in the first few kilometres and never let go.
“It was a tough course but I was able to keep the pace to win. I am happy that my country won the first three places,” said Edwin.
In the women’s category, Kenyans took first and third place. Fancy Chemutai (2:29.19h) won the competition while her compatriot Janet Ruguru crossed the finish line in 2:30.58. Second place went to Shitaye Eshete of Bahrain in 2:29.22h.

Fernando Sánchez, Gonzalo Valdovinos and Marco Caballero took the top three spots in the wheelchair category. In the women’s category, Yeni Hernández, Ivonne Reyes and Leticia Sánchez won.
30,000 runners participated in the Mexico City International Marathon, including 500 foreigners.
