On the Great Masurian Lakes Trail, the Grunwaldzki Canal connecting Lake Tałtowisko with Lake Kotek is closed. A houseboat sailing through the canal hit an underwater obstacle. It turned out to be a car in which a man’s body was found.
A sunken passenger car was pulled out of the Grunwald Canal. – The body of an elderly man was pulled out of the vehicle – informed the spokesman of the Warmia-Masuria fire department Grzegorz Różański. The circumstances of the man’s death and why the car fell into the canal will be investigated by the police. A prosecutor was also working at the scene of the accident.
The MOPR rescuer spoke about the incident Karol Dylewski. He reported that before 9 a.m. the helmsman of the houseboat notified the service that it was stuck on the Grunwald Canal connecting lakes Kotek and Tałtowisko on the Great Masurian Lakes Trail.
I sent our cutter and a diver there to check what had immobilized the houseboat. When the diver went under the water, he determined that it was a sunken car.
– said Dylewski.
MOPR informed the police and other services and institutions responsible for navigation on the lakes about the discovery. The canal is closed to all units. Firefighters, police and a prosecutor are working on the site. MOPR asks sailors to choose other routes for sailing.
Junior cadet Karolina Hrynkiewicz from the press team of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Olsztyn said that it was reported that the unit was stranded.
(…) The houseboat hit a car, which most likely contains a man’s body. Services are currently working on the scene under the supervision of the prosecutor. They will explain when and in what circumstances the car ended up in the water and who the victim of this incident is.
