(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 28 AUGUST – After about six hours of operations, the firefighters declared a fire that broke out around 3 pm in the pine forest near the Redipuglia Shrine to be extinguished. Although the fire is technically extinguished, the area still needs to be cleared and in any case teams from the Fire Brigade, the Regional Forestry Corps and the AIB civil protection will remain all night to guard the burned area and protect the homes that were grazed by the flames in the afternoon. Some people, in fact, had been evacuated from a home in the middle of the woods, for safety reasons, and as a precaution cannot yet return home. Others have been evacuated from other homes. The Fire Brigade announced that the clearing operations will begin tomorrow morning. The teams from the Monfalcone detachment of the Gorizia command, the AIB team from the Gorizia command and those from the Trieste and Udine commands intervened on site, plus two tankers from the Gorizia command; in addition to, as already mentioned, the AIB civil protection volunteers, personnel from the regional forestry corps and a helicopter under regional agreement.
