The individuals entered the cemetery of the Greek community in Istanbul by drugging the guard dogs
On the morning of last Friday, August 23, cemetery officials noticed that unknown persons, who probably entered the fenced area of the cemetery by jumping over the wall, had dug up the soil.
No damages were found in tombs, nor in the temple. There are guard dogs in the area and from the condition the officers found them in, it is estimated that the people who entered gave them some narcotic or hypnotic substance so that they would not react to their presence.
What was found in their possession
The Istanbul Public Security Department said in a statement that the illegal excavation took place at around 4:50 a.m. on August 23, and a 6-meter pit was found to have been dug.
The Police traced the traces of the suspects to the suburb of Kiucuk Cekmetze in the west of Istanbul, from where they reached Tataula using two cars. In the possession of the suspects were found and confiscated 48 pages of documents on locations and instructions for locating hidden treasures, a metal detector, six pieces of explosives used to break rocks, a scribbler and an air gun.
