In the Bad Kissingen district (according to figures from the employment agency) over 40 florist employees work in flower shops. There is now good news for them. They are getting more money. This was pointed out by the IG Bauen-Agrar-Umwelt (IG BAU) florists’ union. “A trained florist now earns 14.66 euros per hour,” says Michael Groha, district chairman of IG BAU Mainfranken. That works out to 2478 euros per month for a full-time job – 118 euros more than before.

The money will even be paid retroactively from July. And in the summer of next year, the hourly wage in the floristry industry will rise again – to 15.36 euros. The bottom line is that employees in the floristry industry will receive a wage increase of almost ten percent this year and next year, according to IG BAU.

Wage increase also for trainees

Trainees in flower shops will also receive significantly more: According to the union, anyone learning the floristry trade in a flower shop will receive 50 euros more per month this year and next year. From August next year, a trainee will then go home with 900 euros in the first year of training and 1100 euros in the third year.

“Florists do a creative and extremely demanding job: from bouquets to arrangements to wreaths – it requires a lot of skill and know-how. But there is more to it than that: goods requirements, purchasing, price calculation… – a florist needs a lot more than just a green thumb,” says Groha.
