JAKARTA.NIAGA.ASIA – The government plans to import an additional 1,600 doses of vaccine in an effort to deal with the monkey outbreak.

“Of the 1,000 doses of vaccine we received, currently only 40 doses are left. “We are waiting for the arrival of 1,600 additional vaccine doses that are expected to arrive this week,” said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Tuesday (27/8/24).

The Health Minister said the additional vaccine will increase the number of monkey pox vaccines previously available in Indonesia by 1,000 doses. Each dose of Mpox vaccine requires a very expensive budget, around IDR 3.5 million.

Although there are no major obstacles in obtaining vaccines from Denmark, the Minister of Health admitted that the availability of vaccines is limited due to high demand from various countries and WHO guidelines that limit the administration of vaccines only to high-risk groups.

“Obviously, this vaccine is not for the general public. Therefore, the transmission is not like this. “The transmission is actually 95 percent sexual contact, the same as HIV,” said the Minister of Health.

The Minister of Health also appealed to the public to be aware of the spread of Mpox without worrying too much, as the 88 cases detected since 2022 have recovered.

“Because the disease is not widely spread, vaccines are not available in large quantities. “However, if our behavior is good and following health guidelines, people do not need to worry too much,” explained the Minister of Health.
