The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office released a report on the progress of the investigations related to the illegal transfer of Ismael The May Zambada García, one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, to the United States on July 25.
The institution headed by Alejandro Gertz Manero reported that the request for an arrest warrant against Guzmán López – son of Joaquín – is already ready. El Chapo Guzmán will be charged with “kidnapping and also for the illegal deprivation of a person’s liberty in national territory to hand him over to the authorities of another country, transferring him outside of Mexico for that purpose,” under (Article 123 of the Federal Penal Code),” a crime considered treason.
In this second advance of the investigations, the Mexican authorities indicated that the FGR “has managed to establish, with complete precision, the track from which the plane that was used for the alleged kidnapping” of Ismael departed. The May Zambada, who is currently detained in the United States, after having been transferred on an illicit flight from Culiacán, Sinaloa.
Likewise, he indicated that the FGR “located the property where the probable crimes of illegal deprivation of liberty, homicides, injuries and acts linked to forced disappearance were carried out, in which the aggression that led to the death” of the former rector of the UAS is linked, who according to the version offered by the Sinaloa prosecutor’s office, had been murdered in an attempted carjacking when he was at a gas station in the city of Culiacán.
In this regard, it was stated that “the federal institution has managed to establish, with precision, that the information about what happened at a gas station in the municipality of Culiacán is not acceptable, nor does it have reliable evidence that would allow it to be taken into account, in the way it was presented.”
Authorities said that the property where Ismael Zambada was allegedly kidnapped, where two of his bodyguards were taken prisoner, and where Cuen Ojeda was murdered, is now protected by the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) while the respective proceedings are being carried out.
The investigations carried out to clarify what happened to Ismael The May Zambada and the arrival of him and Joaquín Guzmán López to the United States have allowed the identification of the vehicles used to commit the possible kidnapping.
“The relevant data will be submitted through due process to the federal judicial authorities when they resume their work. Regardless of this, the federal ministerial and police investigations will continue until the corresponding files are duly compiled.”
