HAUGESUND (Dagbladet): There is a storm around the Norwegian royal house. Staff issues against the crown princess’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, have gone beyond the controversial wedding of a princess in Hardanger.
Two days ago published by NRK a study that showed that 36 percent have received a more negative view of the royal house in the past year.
Most say Märtha Louise, Durek Verrett and the case related to Marius Borg Høiby as the reason.
And although a clear majority of the population still supports the monarchy as a form of government, support has been declining significantly over several years.
Conservative leader Erna Solberg believes that there is no reason to believe that the Norwegian monarchy is about to fall.
– No, for now there is very good support for the monarchy in Norway, and it will be, says Erna Solberg.
– Dramatic issues
– But it is sad to see some of the issues that are up. It is difficult to be the most famous family in Norway and to come up with difficult and dramatic issues that many families experience. Everything happens in full public view, she says.
She thinks the royal family is right not to be very active in the media when there is a storm.
– And then the judge must take care of the judge’s business, she says.
– Is the royal family dependent on trust?
– The royal family are especially symbols of the Norwegian nation. But it is clear, they depend on trust. But I think things like this will pass, and we will still have a lot of trust in them.
– First and foremost, Norwegians now feel very sorry for the royal family, says Erna Solberg.
– Difficult role
– Is it a given that the royal house is able to maintain its unifying function regardless of the people in it at any given time?
– It is true that it is the family of the crown prince in particular and the king and queen who are at their base. That’s what matters.
– So it is difficult to be public figures and to live without a main role, if you are the sister of the man who will become king or if you are a son or son, it is difficult. Of course there is no excuse for acts of violence, it should never do that, but the legal system must take that into account.
– So you don’t welcome a debate about the monarchy?
– Of course not. I think that the majority of Scandinavians now feel for the king and queen, and the crown prince and crown princess in a difficult situation for them, says Erna Solberg.
