The Dutch branch of the Bristol retail chain has filed for bankruptcy. The shoe store announced this on Monday afternoon, after the company failed to find a takeover candidate. This means that the only remaining store in Groningen, located on the Rijksweg, will also close its doors for good soon.
Parent company Euro Shoe Group confirmed on Monday afternoon various media that there is no future for the company in the Netherlands. The Dutch branch of Bristol had been in dire straits for some time.
The company announced earlier this month that all Dutch stores will close. According to Bristol, the stores, including the location on the Rijksweg in Groningen, will remain open to a limited extent until the bankruptcy is final. Online ordering has not been possible for a few weeks. Bristol employees will still be paid this month, but after that it will really stop.
