Morocco’s experience in energy transition presented in Norway

Morocco’s pioneering experience in the field of energy transition was presented at the ONS Energy Forum, a global summit currently taking place in Stavanger, Norway.

Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali, who represents Morocco at this high-profile conclave inaugurated by Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, highlighted the significant progress made by the Kingdom in the field of renewable energy. Leila Benali, who spoke at the opening panel entitled “Towards a more sustainable and resilient future” alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, was keen to highlight the main axes of Morocco’s strategy in this area, including energy security, the scale of the projects carried out, and the speed of their implementation.

During this forum, in which the Moroccan ambassador to Norway Nabila Freidji took part, the Minister of Energy Transition emphasized the importance of international partnerships for a successful energy transition. She noted that Morocco, in view of its potential and the experience it has accumulated in this promising field, is establishing itself as a key player in the context of global efforts aimed at a successful energy transition.

On the sidelines of the Forum, Ms. Benali took part in a roundtable on Sunday under the theme: “A critical issue: Addressing dependencies in clean technology supply chains.” During this discussion, the Minister outlined the strategy for minerals management. While emphasizing Morocco’s vocation as a strategic corridor for global supply chains, Ms. Benali highlighted the importance of recycling critical minerals to ensure their long-term sustainability and encouraging innovation, certification and incentives to address the criticality of minerals. The official also held several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit with key stakeholders, including the Norwegian Ministers of Energy and Climate and Environment, Terje Aasland and Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, respectively. She also met with Norwegian and international operators and stakeholders in the energy sector. These meetings were an opportunity to highlight the potential for collaboration between Morocco and Norway in areas relating to the energy transition.
