The (Im)perfect Scam – Star Wars Outlaws Review

The Star Wars universe has been waiting for its first open-world game for a long time. Finally, Ubisoft and their Studio Massive took up the challenge and decided to create a title that would tell the story of Kay, Nix, and ND-5 an unusual band of adventurers. Are these the adventurers you are looking for? Anna Rogala answers this question in her review of “Star Wars Outlaws.”

Star Wars Outlaws Game Review by Massive Entertainment

In an episode of “Rick and Morty,” we are treated to a multi-layered idea for the perfect heist. The heist of the century planned by Sanchez’s team includes absolutely every possible scenario of failure, stroke of luck, and other variables that affect the mad scientist’s success. I would like to write that the first open-world game from Massive Entertainment in the “Star Wars” universe is equally brilliant and free from flaws. Unfortunately, the heist did not quite go according to expectations. And it’s not just about the plot of the Swedish studio’s latest production.

Kay Vess has gotten herself into quite a mess. One bad decision caused the young adventurer from the planet Cantonica to end up burdened with the stigma of death. As a result, the entire galaxy is after her life. Nervous shuffling of feet can be heard throughout the Outer Rim, and the desire to meet the girl is expressed not only by smaller syndicates, but also by big players like the Hutts and the Scarlet Dawn. How to live when everyone around you wants you dead? The only remedy seems to be to carry out the final heist, a raid that will pale in comparison to all others, and success will guarantee the heroine a life of prosperity for the rest of her days. To do this, it will be necessary to gather a team of total losers, masters in their fields. And this is what we will focus on in “Star Wars Outlaws”.

Getting to Zerek Bashom will be no easy task. Most of our potential allies are in the clutches of the Empire, and rescuing them will be a nearly impossible mission in itself. Kay is no Jedi, has no supernatural powers, and is an ordinary girl caught in very unusual circumstances. She will have to rely on stealth most of the time, avoiding bloodshed to a minimum. Her mission would most likely end in failure at the first turn if not for the hairy axolotl-like Nix. The loyal creature will help the girl mark enemies, find hidden items, and fetch inaccessible bacta vials, for example. The charge will prove to be the key to success when it distracts or attacks nearby enemies, allowing Kay to pass safely. It will also help with environmental puzzles, opening shutters or disabling alarms.

There will be many opportunities to test your skills. Kay is well aware that her mission will not succeed without space credits. This forces her to engage four cartels. The orders carried out for the bandits are of a diverse nature. From simple cargo transport through hacking, thefts to orbital raids to sabotage space stations. It is up to us to whom we will sell our services, with whom we will live in harmony, and who at the sight of them will uncock their blaster and try to blow our head off. A good reputation will result in additional items unique to a given faction, while a bad one… Did I mention blowing your head off?

All space ventures require a health bar slightly longer than the average droid’s lifespan, so we’ll spend some of our free time searching for specialists. Each of them will teach us skills typical of their profession. Mastering them doesn’t depend on the typical skill point. We’ll get some of them after collecting the right materials – for example, using a smoke bomb will depend on finding a compressor, polycarbonate, and a power limiter. Shooting from a speeder bike will become possible after finishing speeder races and scoring headshots on the leading enemies.
