San Lorenzo beat Talleres and achieved their first victory in the championship

San Lorenzo defeated Talleres de Córdoba 2-0 on Sunday in a match corresponding to the 12th round of the Professional League. Thus, they achieved their first victory in the championship, began to move away from the last positions in the standings and took an important step to leave behind their elimination in the Copa Libertadores.

The first chance went to the home team, seven minutes into the first half, when midfielder Elián Irala played the ball back and midfielder Tomás Sosa shot from outside the area, but the shot was deflected.

The first attacking move by the “T” came 10 minutes into the match. A cross from the left by full-back Miguel Navarro was cleared by goalkeeper Gastón “Chila” Gómez. The goalkeeper’s rebound was short and fell to midfielder Matías Galarza, but his shot, from the six-yard box, went over the crossbar.

11 minutes later, the “Cuervo” came back. A mistake by midfielder Diego Ortegoza allowed full-back Nicolás Tripicchio to advance with the ball under control and try to shoot over goalkeeper Guido Herrera, but the latter managed to deflect the ball to the corner.

At 36 minutes into the first half, San Lorenzo took the lead. Tripicchio advanced down the right and assisted with a great through ball to Alexis Cuello, who was one-on-one and finished off Guido Herrera’s exit.

The first dangerous play of the second half was for Talleres, who, after the substitutions, began to change the performance shown in the first half. At 16 minutes and after a header, the forward Cristian Tarragona was one-on-one, on the side of the penalty area, against the goalkeeper Gastón “Chila” Gómez, but a crucial block by the Colombian defender Jhohan Romaña sent the ball to the corner.

Three minutes later, Romaña were the ones who created danger in the opponent’s area. After a free kick taken by striker Iván Leguizamón, the defender, who was near the far post, jumped into the air and finished with a great header, but the ball went just wide of Herrera’s left post.

The goal that sealed the match came 32 minutes into the second half. After a cross from defender Gonzalo Luján, Leguizamón brought the ball down to the middle for Elián Irala, who fired a volley from outside the area. His shot went in close to Herrera’s right post, but he was helpless.
