The audience will forever remember him for his unforgettable roles, for example as the handsome Hubert, Lucifer from the fairy tale S čerty nejų žerty or Popper’s dad from the movie Death of the Beautiful Deer.

Karel Heřmánek was born on October 17, 1947 in Prague. In 1972, he graduated from the acting department at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts (JAMU) in Brno.[3] After his studies, he worked in the avant-garde Theater on a String and in the years 1973–1976 in the Drama Studio in Ústí nad Labem. He then returned to Prague and played in the Na zábradlí Theater until 1991, where he created – especially under the direction of director Evald Schorm – his most important theater characters.

When in 1990 the stage of the Na Zábradlí Theater, where he played, fell apart, Karel Heřmánek founded one of the first private theaters in our country, which he humorously named Divadlo Bez Zábradlí. Part of the original ensemble then moved to the National Theatre, but some colleagues (Jiří Bartoška, Pavel Zedníček) helped get the new theater off the ground.

His wife, presenter and former TV announcer Hana Heřmánková, helped him manage the theaters. He was the director and actor, she the manager. They met in the 80s in a dubbing studio.

After the birth of sons Karel (1989) and Josef (1990), the actor and the presenter decided to get married. The third son František was born in 2001. Karel Heřmánek also had daughters Kristýna and Karolína from his first marriage.
