Kaya hospital faces emergency after Saturday massacre

The attack by the armed terrorist groups lasted several hours, according to witnesses, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. “In each family, there is at least one person killed,” a security source said. Among the victims were community leaders.

In a propaganda video released after the massacre, many men equipped with heavy weapons walk along trenches, at the bottom of which lie dozens of bodies.

According to the latest news, more than 200 bodies, of civilians and soldiers, were found after the attack, and more than 300 wounded were received at the hospital in Kaya. Some were transferred to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso.

Among the government delegation that went to the Kaya hospital were the Minister of Health, the Minister of Security, and the government spokesperson. Jean-Emmanuel Ouedraogo denounced a “cowardly and barbaric” attack whose aim was “to cause as many victims as possible.”

The Minister of Security assured that the Burkinabe armed forces would provide “a response so that the enemy knows that never again will we accept such barbarity on our territory.”

All caregivers summoned
In a note, the management of the Kaya hospital center invites all caregivers to return to their services, due to “the occurrence of an emergency linked to a massive arrival of patients”. Consequently, the scheduled teams must be reinforced, specifies the hospital management.

A special operation to collect blood bags has been launched to ensure the care of the injured, and according to a resident, the population is responding.

For the time being, the town of Kaya is not seeing any new influx of displaced people. “Barasalogho has been cut off from Kaya for several months,” according to humanitarian sources. Without a military convoy, it is impossible to connect the two towns.
