The reporter was speechless tonight after listening to the relatives of Cătălin Leu.
Not cancer, stroke or other serious illness. 37-year-old Buzoian, with a 7-year-old boy, died at the Buzau hospital due to… nose bleeding!
Cătălin Leu worked in quality control (CTC) at the SARA Buzoian factory on Transilvaniei Street.
On a hot day in August, after returning home from work, he found his nose bleeding.
Surprisingly, Cătălin’s bleeding did not stop on its own after a few minutes, as it probably happened to all of us. Worried, the family called the rescue at the house in Săgeata, and Cătălin arrived at the hospital in an ambulance.
It was Thursday with a doctor on call at the ENT. The doctor put a tampon on Cătălin and thus stopped his bleeding.
On Friday, Cătălin was fine, he stopped bleeding from the nose. But in the evening, a sneeze tore the band, and the bleeding started again, profusely.
The following is almost unbelievable, as Chătălin’s relatives say:
“Our salon colleagues also told us. On Friday afternoon, there was no doctor on call at the ENT. So an assistant and “two girls” came to Chătălin’s bed, who didn’t know what to do with him. They were completely frustrated by the situation which was getting worse by the minute. Cătălin began to drown with the blood flowing freely from his nose and mouth. Cătălin was suffocating and the medical staff asked him not to spill blood on the floor so as not to contaminate the area. At some point, but it was probably already too late, the UPU was given a wheelchair for lower transportation. When we, the family, got a call and arrived at the hospital, we found Cătălin in Intensive Care, brought in and connected to machines. Shocked, we hoped all was not lost, it seemed he was still breathing. But we’re told that’s because of the mechanical fan. Then the death was announced. At the autopsy we were told that he died because the lungs were flooded with blood, a lot of blood, whole litres”

After the terrible blow – the news of the sudden death – and the funeral, Chătălin’s family is now trying to shed light on what happened. Căătălin’s brother-in-law wrote to the Buzău College of Physicians:
“Hello, I want to make a report about my 37-year-old brother-in-law, who was hospitalized in Buzău County Hospital, where he died the next day with a common nose. He was not evaluated by doctors and was treated with indifference. From the UPU he was transferred to the ENT without stopping his bleeding. Here he was stunned, without warning, which lasted until the next day when, due to a sneeze, the bleeding started again and led to his death. It happened on a Friday night when the ENT doctor was not on call. The assistants intervened and did not know what to do. They watched him in bed for 15 minutes, during which time his lungs were filling with blood. It was not even transferred down to the UPU. He died days later in a hospital bed, without any medical help. He left behind a broken family: a grieving wife and an intelligent 7-year-old child who keeps asking me where his father is and when he’s coming back. Please check this issue. In the salon where he was hospitalized, there were two patients who told us everything, step by step. Including how the assistants told him to swallow the blood because it would stain their gowns and not to spit on the floor because it would make a mess.”
