“He hasn’t been here yet.” The government is collapsing, the prime minister is satisfied and only this will save him

There is only a year and a few days left until the polling stations are opened, where citizens will choose the new members of the Chamber of Deputies and together with the new government. However, according to many voices, including commentators friendly to the government, Fial’s cabinet is acting as if elections should be held in two or three years.

Public support for the government is not improving, with opinion polls suggesting the opposition could muster a comfortable, if not constitutional, majority. There is little sign that government officials are starting to act as they want to win the election.

The political scientist Lukáš Valeš believes that the behavior of Petr Fiala’s government testifies to his desperation. “I can’t imagine a normal government where a problem like construction management and digitization would happen here, and not only would the responsible minister be dismissed after two months, but asked he himself why he should resign. Here you can see that these people lack even the basic instinct of self-preservation. But the Prime Minister keeps Bartoš, instead of receiving too many criticisms and appeals, more so because he does not need the Pirates to enter the government and he would get important political points. On the one hand, it would get rid of the culprit, and besides, the voters of the ODS and the People’s Party are certainly not enthusiastic about cooperation with a party that supports your marriage for all, Prague Pride and similar things,” said a political scientist to ParlamentníListy.cz.

“Firing the Minister Bartoš or the Pirates from the government would be a gesture that the Prime Minister would really run the government. Instead, we see a kind of potato chip, which just shows that the cabinet is not capable of decisive measures or self-preservation,” surprises Docent Valeš.

Petr Fiala still seems convinced that his group can win the election. They talk about how the country is doing, that the economy is growing, but the current report of the SAO says otherwise. Fial’s words about everything are very much a mystery to Valeš.

“Petr Fiala eliminates all problems that do not fit into his ideal world. He has his own vision of an ideal world, where he will be a great ruler, and from the truth he will only give what suits him and get rid of the bad people. Politicians always have self-confidence, but even in politics at least some self-reflection should work. Here, however, self-deception is at play. The SAO report (referring to the Czech Republic’s high level of debt, the second highest inflation in the EU and the severe drop in GDP, please note.) clearly showed that there will be no festivals here this year either. The central bank lowered its growth forecast for next year. The worst thing, according to the SAO report, is that we have the worst dynamics in terms of debt growth and structural reforms are not happening. So the government is not doing what it has to do and it is making the bad situation worse. In neighboring countries, which also have problems, the economy grows up to five percent, and here it is 0.3. Something is obviously wrong. These are clear economic data that no one can deny, and there is nothing to talk about. The actions of the government completely correspond to the tendency to move over all problems,” says Lukáš Valeš.

It is said that since November 1989, no previous government has dealt with the main problems of the state in the same way as Petr Fiala’s government. “I don’t remember any other government trying to get rid of him. I’m afraid the Fial cabinet is really an exception in this regard. We have had a series of governments that found bad solutions, but at least they tried to find solutions. For example, Kalousko’s blunt cuts, when cuts were made everywhere, but what would we give Kalousko today. Václav Klaus once said that when his government was faced with a fall in GDP, they created measures that did not come into effect until three quarters of a year after their adoption, but two months later. There was nothing to wait for. Now it’s the other way around. The government reacts with a delay of several months, see a limit on electricity prices. And they did it wrong. They helped the energy barons, but stole money from the state and us, ordinary consumers. The government is extremely incompetent, especially in the area where it promised the greatest achievements. Reporter Petr Holec believes that Fial’s government is a godsend for the opposition, and that the next election could extend the current cabinet’s tenure by four years only if the opposition themselves are to blame.

“The Purple Five are trying to reverse this unfavorable trend by constantly lying and turning reality upside down, with which most of the media, on the management by the public broadcasters ČT and ČRo, helps him abundantly. The only thing that can keep the purple people in power is if the opposition loses so many votes in the elections again. Even now, Fial’s government rules with a parliamentary majority, but with a minority of voters. Again, therefore, he cannot rule only in spite of himself. Fiala keeps promising people to restart the Czech Republic, but the reality is that the Czech Republic needs to restart after its destructive four-year period. But I believe that the censor Otakar Foltýn will help the Czech Republic and that he will fully participate in the disinfection of the government,” Holec estimates.

According to him, the opposition parties must not allow him to lose their votes outside the House of Representatives again in the next elections. “If necessary, they must also unite and, following the example of the violets, convince their voters that Fiala is the worst threat to the Czech Republic. They are well equipped for this, just look at the government’s dismal economic results, the historical impoverishment of people due to its incompetence, and the return of totalitarian practices.
