Jagiellonia players lost a match against Ajax Amsterdam in the 4th round of the Europa League qualifiers on Thursday, and on Sunday they played an away match in the Ekstraklasa against GKS Katowice. The newcomer from Silesia defeated the Polish champion 3:1.
Before the match, the authorities of the Katowice club presented the sports director of Jagiellonia Białystok, Łukasz Masłowski, with a commemorative plate for the first Polish championship in Jagiellonia’s history.
A moment after the match started the hosts took the lead. Jagiellonia in their own style – with short passes – tried to get the ball out of their own goal. However, Haliti made a big mistake, he passed the ball to the opponents in their own penalty area, and the goal was scored by Adrian Błąd.
Despite the high temperature, players from both teams had no shortage of energy to attack. In the 18th minute the score was already 1:1. Jagiellonia carried out a team action, and the final passes were made by: Jesus Imaz, who passed to Kubicki, and after his shot, Pululu headed the ball into the GKS goal from close range.
In the second half, Jagiellonia’s players were clearly weaker. They were unable to threaten the opponents’ goal, who took the lead in the 73rd minute. Galan decided to take a long-range shot, the ball bounced off Mateusz Kowalczyk and into the Jagiellonia net.
Repka scored a goal for 3:1 in added time and the referee ended the match a moment later. Jagiellonia Białystok in clear crisis, losing its fifth match in a row.
The next match Jagiellonia Białystok will play on Thursday (29.08) away against Ajax Amsterdam. It will be a return match in the 4th round of the Europa League qualifiers. In the first match Ajax won 4:1.
