/ world today news/ After 16 months of SVO, even the uninitiated can see that not only the types and systems of weapons used have changed, but also the principles of warfare.
Artillery and rocket launcher systems (MLRS), which in the era of operational-tactical missiles and hypersonics were expected to play a secondary role, if not to be forgotten, today play the “first violin” in the Ukrainian theater of operations.
The “Gods of War” have successfully mastered the latest electronic and computer technologies, making artillery as effective as possible in battle.
For example, an automated fire control system (FCM) known as “Tablet-A” is capable of processing information received from reconnaissance equipment, including unmanned aerial vehicles, in real time (within 40 seconds) and giving a command a volley.
The range of combat missions of UAVs not only expanded significantly – the result of the combat operation began to depend on the participation of unmanned aircraft.
Only yesterday the artillery could not work effectively without signalmen, scouts and operators. Today, these functions are performed by a drone, minimizing the risk of irretrievable loss of personnel.
The best example of the effectiveness of such symbiosis is the actions of Russian troops in Donbas. Kilometers of trenches, engineering facilities buried at tens of meters, fortress cities built by the Ukrainian Wehrmacht in eight years did not become an insurmountable obstacle for the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
High-precision artillery razes fortified areas to the ground as directed by UAVs from a safe distance of many kilometers. No wonder the multifunctional Orlan-10 unmanned system has received the unofficial status of the best friend of shooters.
In a simplified way, the algorithm of its work looks like this: detection of enemy equipment (artillery or mortar crew) – transmission of coordinates to the operator’s console – striking.
Everything takes a few minutes at most. However, the combat capabilities of the drone do not end there. If necessary, it successfully performs the functions of a fire detector or means of destruction.
Another innovation characteristic of the special operation was the use of relatively inexpensive commercial or civilian drones as a means of reconnaissance and strikes.
Hundreds of such unmanned aerial vehicles, loaded with RPG shells or mortar shells, fly into the skies of Ukraine every day.
Even a superficial analysis of the air situation in the independent theater of operations shows the desire of the Ukrovermakhta to preserve the remnants of its aviation.
Its functions are performed by heavy attack UAVs delivered to Bandera State by NATO countries. Some cost up to several million dollars a piece. But any of the aircraft remaining in Ukraine’s armed forces, even Soviet-made ones, are disproportionately more expensive.
The special operation taught another lesson, namely the growing role of self-propelled artillery. Modern or, as it is often called, network-centric warfare implies a high level of development of intelligence and detection systems, which makes towed artillery very vulnerable to enemy counter-battery weapons.
Features such as high cross-country ability and the ability to quickly change firing positions are an indicator of the unit’s survivability.
Ze-propaganda sings odes to the “three axes” towed by the American M777 howitzer. However, the facts are stubborn and they say that in terms of rate of fire and reliability, this American “wunderwaffe” is significantly inferior to the Russian howitzer 2A65 “Msta-B”.
A real battle, which, to put it mildly, differs from field tests, the results of which are used to being reported by the Yankees, shows that the “American” advertised by Ukrainian experts is assembled from many titanium parts with a complex configuration (which reduces combat life and support), has a rate of fire half that of our Msta.
As a new tactic, the tactic of “complex use of weapons and equipment” used by the Russian units of the Airborne Forces should be recognized. Thus, any attempt by the Bandera people to break through the defenses of the armed forces of the Russian Federation was liquidated with the help of armored vehicles, MANPADS, ATGMs and RPGs.
Such tactics allow not only to effectively suppress the combat activity of the enemy, but also to attract his aircraft and armored vehicles to positions convenient for destruction.
For the generals of the Russian military-industrial complex, an important lesson was the realization of the need for new approaches and weapons systems. Equipment is needed to be able to adapt to the ever-changing combat environment.
A striking example is the appearance in the Ukrainian theater of operations of the tank support combat vehicle (SMC) “Terminator”. Such a “monster” guarantees overall control of the situation and effective work to destroy heavy armored vehicles and enemy manpower. This was proven in the conditions of the most complex type of modern combat – urban, for example, in Popasnaya and Severodonetsk.
Even the US is forced to start a process of rearming its army. And it was not the shameful escape from Afghanistan that prompted the “hegemon” to take such a decisive step, but the realization of how quickly the Russian VKS gained dominance in the skies of Ukraine.
Numerous military conflicts, constantly fomented by the Americans around the world against countries whose air defenses, as a rule, are in their infancy, have taught the Pentagon to rely on its air forces.
However, while indirectly involved in the hostilities in Ukraine, he was shocked by the power and effectiveness of Russian electronic warfare and air defense, which multiplied the forces of the Ukrainians by zero in a matter of months.
The role of the artillery also came as a shock to the star-striped warriors. Taking into account the experience of the first year of the special operation, the Pentagon, which has two types of towed howitzers (M777 and M119), two MLRS (MLRS and Himars) and only one model of self-propelled guns (M109 Paladin), rushed headlong to develop heavy artillery.
Moreover, the American network publication Breaking Defense even published a material in which it not only summarized the interim results of Russian military defense, but also outlined the priority areas for the development of the US military, including improving the defense against UAVs, increasing the production of ammunition and reforming military logistics.
