The death of a visitor to Anavra in Almyros Volos on Sunday, August 18, brought the reaction of the municipality of Almyros, for the non-operation of the rural clinic, with the Prosecutor’s Office of Volos requesting an urgent preliminary examination of the incident, to determine if there is a criminal possibility of exposure at risk and dereliction of duty!
According to the relevant information, the Prosecutor’s Office asked the competent Magistrate to examine all aspects of the tragic event, in order to establish whether there is indeed an issue with the non-operation of the rural clinic in Anavra, with the municipality of Almyros in its statement claiming that the the doctor stationed there rarely appears, as he moves to the Almyros Health Center in order to provide his services there.
In this context, the relatives of the unfortunate elderly woman who ended up will be invited to present their views, but the medical file of the elderly woman will also be examined. At the same time, the operating status of the rural clinic will be investigated, to see if there is any responsibility of the 5th Health Department or the Almyros Health Center.
The responsible Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, even made provocative statements in his televised intervention claiming that “this unfortunate lady who left was stopped in a tavern on Sunday. Has there ever been a weekend doctor in a regional clinic in the NHS? Since the establishment of the National Health Service, there is no doctor on Saturday. The area is covered by the nearest health center. This has been the case since the late Gennimatas, since the foundation of the National Social Insurance Institution. The nurse went to perform CPR in 3 minutes, the ambulance arrived in 20 minutes from Domokos, the lady died, because she died, she could not be saved, it had nothing to do with the doctor.”
He also added that “If the image remains in public opinion that a tourist died because there was no doctor, that is a lie. He didn’t die for it. This damages the NHS, it also damages Greece”.
Of course, after the intervention of the prosecutor, the health minister remains exposed, while Stefanos Kasselakis asked Kyriakos Mitsotakis to remove Adonis Georgiadis from the government. “Mr. Mitsotakis, the far-right statement that you made health minister “the patient had a stroke on Sunday and there are no doctors on weekends, no state can have doctors everywhere” is an extreme example of cynicism,” the president of SYRIZA – PS emphasized in his post.

I know that you and Mr. Georgiadis share the same cynicism…— Stefanos Kasselakis (@skasselakis) August 23, 2024
