Magdeburg/DUR – On Sunday, 1. FC Magdeburg will host seven-time German champions Schalke 04 (1:30 p.m. live on Sky). However, fans must expect severe traffic restrictions before and after the match.
Around 27,000 spectators will be drawn to the Avnet Arena this weekend. The game has been sold out for several weeks. The away section is also full to the last seat.

Traffic restrictions around Avnet Arena
In a police report, the Magdeburg police stated that road users should expect traffic jams and short-term road closures all day on Saturday.
After the game, the area of Gübser Weg, Friedrich-Ebert-Straße and Georg-Heidler-Straße will be used as a two-lane one-way street after the final whistle.

In addition, traffic heading into the city will be diverted over the Elbe via Berliner Chaussee and Brückstraße. The Strombrücke and the Kaiserin-Editha Brücke, however, are open again for car and tram traffic.
Mass brawl in Magdeburg at last encounter
At the last meeting, a mass brawl broke out between the two fan camps at the Neustadt S-Bahn station, which left several people injured. Such confrontations are to be prevented this year.
In response to a request from Magdeburg Blau-Weiß, the police stressed: “The police are constantly observing and evaluating the past football clashes. Accordingly, there will be a strong police presence in the state capital next Sunday.”
