Italy: AC Milan loses to promoted Parma

AC Milan have had a complete misfire in their start to the season: after a miraculous draw at home last weekend, the Italian vice-champion lost 2-1 to promoted Parma on Saturday’s second day of Serie A.

After two matches, Paulo Fonseca is looking gloomy. The Portuguese coach who succeeded Stefano Pioli this summer, has still not tasted victory at the helm of the Lombard club.

His team, deprived of star recruit Alvaro Morata, who was injured, conceded a first goal in the second minute through Dennis Man.

Christian Pulisic gave the Rossoneri hope by equalising in the 66th minute, but Parma took the lead definitively in the 77th minute thanks to Matteo Cancellieri, who was helped by the marking errors of the Milan defence.

With a point, snatched at the end of added time against Torino (2-2) on the first day, AC Milan provisionally occupies 16th place in the Italian Championship.

Parma, back in the elite after three years of absence, took the lead in Serie A with four points.

Inter Milan, the defending champion held to a draw on the first day by Genoa (2-2), will face bottom-placed Lecce on Saturday evening.
