TidalWave Comics, a pioneer in the world of biographical illustrated books, announced Friday that basketball legend Kobe Bryant will be the subject of the latest installment of its acclaimed “Tribute” series, which pays tribute to influential figures.
The comic, written by Michael Frizell and illustrated by Pablo Martinena, consists of 22 pages and captures the remarkable journey of Bryant, known as the “Black Mamba,” from his beginnings as a basketball prodigy to becoming an enduring legend, according to a press release.
The Los Angeles Lakers star was born into a family with deep roots in the NBA as he is the son of former professional player, Joe ‘Jellybean’ Bryant.
Kobe’s passion for basketball was evident at a young age and moving to Italy at just six years old allowed him to hone his skills in a different environment before returning to the United States to attend high school.
Kobe’s journey in the NBA began directly after high school, when he was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in 1996, before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he would spend the entirety of his 20-year career.
Bryant’s relentless pursuit of excellence, combined with his exceptional talent and fierce competitiveness, led him to lead the Lakers to five NBA championships, earn 18 All-Star selections and be named NBA MVP in 2008.
Beyond his illustrious basketball career, Kobe was an advocate for youth sports and education and even cemented his legacy by winning an Academy Award for his emotional short film, ‘Dear Basketball,’ in 2018.
The tragic loss of Kobe and his daughter, Gianna, in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, has only served to amplify his influence on aspiring athletes around the world, the note states.
TidalWave Comics editor Darren G. Davis explained that the ‘Tribute’ comic series is dedicated to honoring the legacies of those icons who have left us.
“It’s our way of paying tribute to those who have had a lasting impact on the world,” he stressed.
‘Tribute: Kobe Bryant’ will be available starting Wednesday, August 28 in digital and print formats, which will have two editions, one softcover and one hardcover, while the pocket edition will feature a unique cover designed by Martinena.
Through Tribute, Orbit and Female Force, American publisher TidalWave Comics offers a wide range of titles available for digital download on various platforms, including more than 300 biographical comics.
