The struggle for corporate clients is getting more intense. There are small startups willing to share and create AI models tailored to the needs of specific companies. A startup may not have many customers, but it only needs a few big ones that pay big orders.
OpenAI has noticed this trend and sees it as a threat to its business. Many companies may decide to collaborate with a smaller provider that will “customize” AI to specific requirements, while at the same time guaranteeing that physical data will not be processed and used to train artificial intelligence, remain completely under the control of the client.
The creator of ChatGPT sees a market threat and decided to respond. Business customers can access GPT-4o, the latest version of AI, i they will be able to adapt it to their own needs and use their data in a secure way.
ChatGPT at service companies
A function called fine-tuning, which allows you to adjust the operation of AI according to your needs, it will be available to companies next Tuesday. OpenAI will provide the choice of behavior, among others: additional training for artificial intelligence based on data from a specific company’s business or a specified field.
Imagine we run an online store specializing in hard drives. We can prepare the appropriate data sets, as well as leverage the AI’s existing knowledge of disks, and then create an “AI agent” in the form of a chatbot based on GPT-4o. Once connected to the store, such a chatbot could answer customer questions and recommend special products according to their needs, as well as providing technical support.

OpenAI believes that tuning will promote collaboration with many companies that already use ChatGPT regularly, but so far have not been able to adapt AI to their needs and therefore used the services of other providers.
It is worth noting that fine tuning was available in OpenAI, but only for GPT-4o minor version. The best models, GPT-4 and GPT-4o, did not provide these capabilities and now this is about to change. – The simplification of the way to change the AI model, thanks to direct cooperation with companies, should attract customers – says Olivier Godement, head of the API product department at OpenAI. He says: – We focused strongly on reducing barriers, reducing problems and the amount of work required to get started.
To clarify, the customization of AI through an API is where a company can teach the specific AI things that are important to it using its own data. For example, AI can answer questions about its products or services. Thanks for this becomes more useful to a particular company because it has a better understanding of its uniqueness. This process is done using tools (API – Application Programming Interface) that allow the transfer of data to the AI model easily without the need for advanced technical knowledge.
A rash of AI agents is coming
Customizing the AI model is not complicated. You need to send your data to OpenAI servers and then train artificial intelligence – on average it takes two hours. For now, the company will only support text data.
We can integrate such ready-made “agent” with our own services and products. This could lead to a situation where virtual representatives appear in many places, at the same time putting some experts in customer service or technical support departments out of work. For a business, this may not be an opportunity for new revenue, but for savings.

Currently, there is increasing pressure to implement AI solutions that translate into better finances – whether in lower costs or new sources of revenue.
For now, AI has allowed and continues to allow companies that make AI chips (eg Nvidia) or deal with widely understood IT infrastructure to earnincluding building data centers and cloud services. While some companies benefit greatly and in some places eg There is a shortage of plots for data centersother companies are increasingly aware that they have spent a lot of money on AI and it is not translating into a return on investment, as described We have already written on Business Insider.
Providing the latest AI model in the form of a major tweak can make a big difference. Unfortunately, we are mainly talking about benefits for employers (lower costs), not employees (potential job losses).
