One of the departments of the Victoria Hospital is in the spotlight. An anonymous letter currently circulating alleges misdealing and corruption on the part of some nurses who allegedly use the hospital’s equipment for private consultations against payment.
Patients would pay around Rs 2000 for blood samples and tests. Analyses would have been carried out in the laboratory of the Victoria Hospital without any mention being made in the register. These same nurses would benefit from a certain protection from the new head of this department. In return, the latter could count on them when she was absent during her working hours. That is to say: She reported her presence in the register, but left her post earlier than expected.
Some patients have filed complaints with the ministry about mistreatment. But no sanctions have been taken against these nurses and the head of the department who call the shots. This situation has provoked indignation among other members of the nursing staff who have continued to denounce such actions.
They deplore the fact that some people who have never worked in this department have been promoted recently to the detriment of those who have been there for many years. There has also been an attempt to transfer those who wanted to denounce the bad practices in progress. We contacted the Ministry of Health. An officer assured us that an investigation will be opened. That sanctions will be taken against the people incriminated.
