With these words, the Cretan Member of Parliament, Pavlos Polakis, at the meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA (to which he connected online) dropped a bombshell, effectively revealing his intentions to assume the presidency of the party.
According to information, Stefanos Kasselakis replied that he is not picking up the gauntlet and that whoever wishes to file a motion of censure should do so at the Central Committee.
The chronicle of the conflict
Despite the support in last year’s internal party elections, the relations between Pavlos Polakis and Stefanos Kasselakis had been tested before. And in Congress, and when the MP did not vote for the same-sex couple bill.
The president of SYRIZA changed his position in the parliament (from departmental coordinator, he became transparency departmental head), while the deputy in the party organs had pointed out that Stefanos Kasselakis was showing off his personal life too much.
The glass was broken on July 25 when Stefanos Kasselakis put him out of the Parliamentary Group (but not out of the party).
Since then, Pavlos Polakis has been severely criticizing Athina Linou, who had apologized on behalf of SYRIZA to his colleague Adonis Georgiadis, with whom he had quarreled with the MP of Chania, sending his arrows to the party’s leadership as well.
However, the president of SYRIZA in the First Program had mentioned in very good words about the government work of the former Minister of Health, while he had refused the proposals for deletion from the party.
The last episode was Pavlos Polakis’ criticism of Stefanos Kasselakis for the independent research on the Athena Linou institute.
“At the same time that I was put out of KO with a staged and fake cry in half an hour WITHOUT ASKING OR NOTIFYING ME, they need – he says – an investigation by an “independent technocrat” to draw a conclusion about what was revealed about Linou ! Pavlos Polakis now clearly states his intention to run for the presidency… This will probably be done at the Central Committee on September 7-8, unless there are developments earlier.
