A 48-year-old Italian man is accused of murdering four elderly people, whom he cared for over the past 10 years, Italian media reported today.
Mario Euticia, aged 48, presented himself Thursday at a carabinieri station in Caserta, southern Italy, claiming responsibility for the deaths of four people he was caring for.
“I want someone to arrest me. Continuing to work, I would probably do it again,” he said, according to the Corriere della Sera website.
“I wanted to end their suffering,” he also said, according to La Repubblica website.
As Corriere writes, the four elderly people all suffered from cancer and Mario Euticia killed them by increasing the dose of the drugs they were receiving, including those for pain.
Two of his victims have been identified, a 95-year-old who died last March and an 88-year-old who died in December 2023, whose deaths were not considered suspicious given their medical conditions.
The other two deaths, for which he is charged, occurred in 2014 in the town of Latina, not far from Rome, but the victims have not yet been identified.
