Tymoteusz Szydło, the son of the former prime minister, became famous when he was ordained in 2017 and became a priest. His first mass was attended by, among others, Tadeusz Rydzyk and Jarosław Kaczyński, and a letter of congratulations was sent by Viktor Orban.

In August 2019, the priest asked the Bishop of Bielsko-Żywiec, Roman Pindel, for an indefinite leave. At that time, his lawyer, attorney Maciej Zaborowski, issued a statement in which he denied the information about the alleged reasons for this decision. He was referring to the suggestions in the public space that the reason was fathering a child.

“At the same time, I declare that all persons and entities further spreading the above lies will be immediately subject to private indictments and civil lawsuits for the protection of personal rights,” the lawyer wrote at the time.

According to WP’s findings, Zaborowski had indeed sent “letters to Internet authors comments about Father Tymoteusz. He informed them about the defamatory nature of the entries and asked them to provide an e-mail address in order to “send a scan of the power of attorney and conduct further correspondence”.

As reported by the media at the time, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw took up the case. Investigators pursuing the authors of the internet posts turned to the United States and Great Britain for help. This was an unusual situation, because usually there must be a “public interest” for the prosecutor’s office to get so involved in the case.

The turbulent fate of Tymoteusz Szydło. The prosecutor’s office is still investigating his case

As Onet has learned from the Warsaw prosecutor’s office, investigators are still investigating the case of the former prime minister’s son. The proceedings are currently suspended.

— Not all the materials from foreign legal aid to the USA and Great Britain have been received yet — explains Piotr A. Skiba, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw.

What materials are these? The prosecutor’s office has previously made public that it has applied to the US authorities to obtain from Facebook Inc., as part of international legal assistance, data enabling the identification of the profile user.

Investigators have also identified two potential witnesses who are resident in the UK. An application has been made to the UK judicial authorities to question both witnesses.

— The deadlines remain suspended and do not run based on Article 22 paragraph 1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. At the moment, no other actions are planned, and the further course depends on obtaining materials from the US and Great Britain — prosecutor Skiba specified in an interview with Onet.

Tymoteusz Szydło. From “the first priest of the Republic of Poland” to his mysterious disappearance

Tymoteusz Szydło was at one point one of the most recognizable priests in Poland. When he began his priestly ministry in 2017, his mother was eager to speak to the media about it. In 2019, her son’s decision to leave the priesthood must have been a problem for her. The topic is coming back as internal disputes in Law and Justice come to light.

In October 2019 Beata Szydło’s sons — Tymoteusz and Błażej — issued a statement in which they asked for respect for their privacy. “Our actions are the subject of comments and assessments dedicated, among others, by Internet users, including often in a very offensive form. All of this has a negative impact on our private lives,” it was sent in a letter dated September 11.

Finally, in December 2019, Tymoteusz Szydło announced his resignation from the priesthood. He explained the reasons for his decision in another statement. “Currently, my reputation as a priest is shattered by rumors and speculation. I also state with pain that I have not managed to overcome the crisis of faith and vocation,” he wrote. He also stated that he had made mistakes in contacts with the media: “Especially right after my ordination, when I did not object when they tried to associate me with a specific political option.”

At the beginning of March 2021, his name was removed from the list of priests of the Bielsko-Żywiec diocese.

Beata Szydło Doesn’t Want to Talk About Her Son: “The Hate Against My Family Was Very Painful”

Beata Szydło, who was eager to speak to the media at the beginning of her son’s priestly ministry, steadfastly refused to comment on the matter after his decision. She has only raised the issue a few times over the years.

In September 2020, Szydło stated that describing the lives of her family members was unfounded, because they did not hold state or public offices and were not employed in state-owned companies. “The hate against my family was very painful,” the former prime minister added in an interview with Wirtualna Polska.

— My son is a private person, this is his private life and I will absolutely not comment on it, she said in the same interview.

Regret for mocking his son. “He can’t forgive Mateusz”

In recent months, Beata Szydło has fallen foul of the PiS leadership. As a result, the media has been writing about her weakening position and speculating that the current MEP will lose her position as vice-president of the party. The former prime minister is already said to be full of resentment towards her party colleagues for all the humiliation she has suffered. This includes the story of her son and the rumors circulating about it.

-Beata [Szydło] can’t forgive Mateusz [Morawieckiemu]that he used her son Tymoteusz to fight dirty against her – says one of the interviewees of the weekly “Polityka”.

The politician is said to believe that it was Morawiecki and his people who “dragged the matter of her son’s priesthood to the media”. It is also said to be about the leak of information about the ongoing investigation in the prosecutor’s office. This happened in the summer of 2023.

– It is known that Ziobro wanted to help Beata, but it should not have been leaked to the media. She believes that it was Mateusz’s work. It was during the parliamentary campaign, in which she was involved, which irritated them. They knew that she was very upset about it all, and the blow would hurt her and weaken her in Kaczyński’s eyes – a PiS official told “Polityka”.

“Someone from Szydło’s circle says that Tymoteusz is still licking his wounds and is in a good relationship with his mother. He has not lost faith in God, but he has a problem with the institution of the Church,” we read in the magazine.
