The long-awaited release of Short n’ Sweet has finally arrived, the new studio album by Sabrina Carpenter in which the Pennsylvania native gives a new twist to her work, proving to be one of the most versatile and personal voices on the scene, while bringing a more mature, fun and ironic approach to her compositions.
Moving away from the Disney girl image that has accompanied Sabrina Carpenter since the beginning of her career, the singer wanted to show a development that goes beyond the purely professional, capturing the personal evolution she has experienced over the last few years.
Her first two singles, Espresso and Please Please Please, were already a first sign of this distancing from her previous stage. A desire that is also reflected in Taste, the new video that accompanies the release of the album and in which the author shows that she is a real force to be reckoned with, literally.
In the purest Norman Bates style in Psycho, the singer does not hesitate to grab a knife to confront actress Jenna Ortega, who is taking a shower in good company.
The careful aesthetic level of Short n’ Sweet, which has found inspiration in great stars of classic Hollywood or, as Carpenter herself has detailed, the figure of Christina Aguilera, one of her greatest influences. In the case of Taste, a special care can also be appreciated in terms of the audiovisual style, recognizing the winks that the duo Carpenter and Ortega make towards the 1992 film Death Becomes Her, starring Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn.
A high-flying launch
“I feel extremely lucky that every time I write a new record I learn a little bit more about myself, and I can create from that place,” she posted on her Instagram account.
She also wanted to thank all the people who helped shape the album in her post: “Thank you to my brilliantly talented friends, writers, producers, mixers, engineers and creative minds who helped me bring this world and these songs to life. It wasn’t a serious thought but in some ways it was, lol I love you all and I’m so grateful.”
Sabrina Carpenter will also be one of the stars of the MTV Video Music Awards, one of the most important musical events of the year, as well as having six nominations for the Moon Persons awards, including the categories of coveted artist and song of the year.
Critics and fans alike have been enthusiastic about this new project, achieving another milestone in her long career despite being only 25 years old. The American singer has also announced a world tour that will begin in March 2025 in Dublin, with stops in Paris (March 16), Berlin (March 22) and London (March 8), where she will present her new songs live. Although dates for Spain have not yet been announced, her Spanish fans are eagerly awaiting the artist’s decision to extend the tour to our country.
Lyrics for ‘Taste’ by Sabrina Carpenter in Spanish
Oh, it left a big impression
One meter and fifty to be exact.
You wonder why half of his clothes disappeared
My body is where it is
——
Now I’m gone, but you’re still lying there
At my side, a degree of separation
——
I heard they got back together and if that’s true
You’ll have to taste me when I kiss you
If you want forever, I bet you do
Just know that you will test me too
Dog
——
It immobilizes you on the carpet
He makes paintings with his tongue (La-la-la-la-la-la-la)
It’s funny, now all his jokes sound different
Guess who he learned that from?
——
Now I’m gone, but you’re still lying there
At my side, a degree of separation
——
I heard they got back together and if that’s true
You’ll just have to taste me when he kisses you
If you want forever, I bet you do (I bet you do)
Just know that you will test me too
La-la-la-la-la-la-la
——
Every time you close your eyes
And you feel his lips, you’re feeling mine
And every time you breathe its air
Just know that I’ve been there before
You can have it if you want
I’ve been there, done that once or twice
And singing about it doesn’t mean I care
Yes, I know I’ve been known to share
——
Well I heard they got back together and if that’s true
You’ll just have to taste me when he kisses you
If you want forever, I bet you do (I bet you do)
Just know that you will test me too
——
Try me too, oh (La-la-la-la-la-la-la)
You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you
You, no, yes, ah-ah (La-la-la-la-la-la-la)
You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you
