The Top of the Top Sopot Festival paid tribute to the late Tadeusz Woźniak and Magik

On August 22, the Top of the Top Sopot Festival ended, bringing together a whole galaxy of stars.

On the last day, icons of Polish music played, including Ewa Bem, Krystyna Prońko, Alicja Majewska, Halina Mlynkova and Andrzej Rybiński. There was also no shortage of contemporary artists, such as Natalia Nykiel, Bovska, OSTR, Ania Karwan, Natalia Przybysz, Sarsa, as well as Edyta Bartosiewicz, who celebrated the 30th anniversary of the release of the album “Sen”.

The artists were accompanied by a 50-person orchestra conducted by Daniel Nosewicz and Nikola Kołodziejczyk, thanks to which the arrangements were completely different than in the original. The whole was conducted by Mery Spolsky and Paulina Krupińska-Karpiel.

Artists paid tribute to deceased legends at the festival in Sopot

The first part of the festival was held under the slogan “Legends of Polish music”. Despite their advanced age, most of the iconic artists were in fantastic shape. The audience was most captivated by the performances of Krystyna Prońko with the hit “Jesteś lekem na cała złe”, Ewa Bem with “Moje serce to jest muzyczny” and the performance of “Jeszcze się tam żagiel biel” by Alicja Majewska in a duet with Włodzimierz Korcz.

“I didn’t manage to come here to Sopot last year. A terrible illness stopped me in my tracks (…) Thank you very much for waiting for me. Here I am!” – recalled Ewa Bem from the stage.

A very moving moment was the performance of the iconic hit Tadeusz Woźniak “The Watchmaker of Light”. A moment before the concert began, Paulina Krupińska revealed that the artist was supposed to appear in person at the festival in Sopot. Unfortunately, he died on July 8 and was buried in Warsaw’s Powązki Cemetery.

With the first sounds of the piece, the audience also heard the voice of… Woźniak himself! His singing resounded from the stage, and his image generated using artificial intelligence was displayed on the big screens. After a while, Małgorzata Ostrowska, Andrzej Rybiński, Halina Frąckowiak, Andrzej Dąbrowski, Krystyna Prońko and Ewa Bem performed the piece together until the end. Among the performers was also the clearly saddened wife of the deceased musician, Jolanta Majchrzak.

Another tribute was paid during the rap part of the Top of the Top Sopot Festival. The event ended with a performance by the cult group Paktofonika, who performed the songs “Chwile ulotne” and “Jestem Bóg”. The viewers were delighted with the concert: “Memories and youth times are coming back, such hip-hop is missing”, “Pozamiatali at the very end”, “In two words: The Best”.

The big screens showed a photo of Piotr “Magik” Łuszcz, one of the band’s founders, whose tragic death on December 26, 2000 shocked Poland. Between songs, the artists mentioned the rapper and asked the audience to symbolically applaud the deceased.
