Navy creates team to contain incidents at airfields

The Mexican Navy (Semar) created the Aerodrome Incident Containment Team, which aims to neutralize illicit activities in aircraft, facilities and vehicles that put at risk the safety of passengers, airport facilities and air operations, in strict compliance with the National Law on the Use of Force.

In a statement, the naval institution reported that this Thursday it carried out a “Simulation of an act of unlawful interference in the form of Unlawful Seizure of Aircraft” at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), which was carried out by the new Incident Containment Team (ECI).

“The Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), the Mexican Air Navigation Services (SENEAM), the National Intelligence Center of the Government of Mexico, and airport security personnel also participated in this drill, which was carried out on board a Magnicharters airline unit,” he said.

The ECI is made up of naval personnel belonging to the High Command Headquarters. Semar stressed that this team was specifically trained to respond to acts of illicit interference in airfields.

“The presentation of the ECI was carried out in compliance with civil aviation security protocols and in adherence to civil protection guidelines without affecting operations.

“It is worth noting that this type of exercise allows SEMAR and AICM, authorities and the participating airline, to measure the execution times of their protocols in cases of emergencies, and to evaluate their practices to improve said procedures in favor of the safety of people and operations,” he said.
