San Luis Potosí, SLP., August 23, 2024.- The Social Security Institute of the State of Mexico and Municipalities (ISSEMYM) invites the population to participate in its Second Annual Altruistic Blood Donation Collection. The event will take place on Monday, August 26, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the blood banks of the ISSEMYM Medical Center and the Regional Hospital of Toluca.
Alma Guillermina Ramírez Zamora, head of Blood Services at the Institute, stressed the importance of the campaign, since currently, out of an average of 800 donations per month in these hospitals, only four to six are voluntary. The collection seeks to increase the number of altruistic donations to ensure an adequate supply of blood.
Emergency patients, including those with injuries from car accidents, motorcycle accidents, firearms or stab wounds, require platelet, packed red blood cell and plasma transfusions. In addition, pregnant women in the emergency department also need large amounts of blood for their own and their baby’s treatment.
Ramírez Zamora explained that a donation of 450 milliliters of blood can save up to four lives, since the blood is separated into concentrated red blood cells, plasma and platelets. This volume is regenerated in approximately 24 hours.
To donate, you must be in good health, be between 18 and 65 years old, fast for six hours and avoid fats one day before the donation. You must also present official identification and have at least two hours to attend the medical evaluation and clinical tests, which are free of charge.
Tattoos, piercings, diabetes and hypertension do not prevent donation, as long as the disease is under control. For more information, interested parties can call 722-226-1900 or visit the website www.issemym.gob.mx.
