Change negotiations are underway at Hotel Maria, which opened in Helsinki last December. The matter will be confirmed by the hotel’s media representative Tia Härkönen.
– One key goal is to ensure that the number of hotel staff is correct in relation to the number of customers and services.
In other words, does this mean layoffs or layoffs?
– I can’t answer this right now. Negotiations have only started this week.
According to Härkönen, the negotiations will last according to the longer process, i.e. for at least six weeks.
– The longer time is so that good and considered decisions can be made.
Härkönen says that no further details will be commented on the change negotiations at this stage.
Expensive luxury

The hotel operates in Kruununhaa in the center of Helsinki in four historic buildings. It has been marketed as an international level hotel, whose special features include, for example, the range of services, the size of the rooms and the selection of suites.
According to the hotel’s website, there are 117 rooms and 38 majestic suites. The largest suite is 160 square meters in size, and one night in it costs more than 6,000 euros.
Even the cheapest rooms cost around 300 euros for one night. Last December, at the time of the hotel’s opening, Iltalehti reported that 120 professionals from different parts of the world had been hired for the staff.
The hotel also offers what is known to be the most expensive drink in Finland. Earlier this summer, Iltalehti tested the Pure Nordic Nature mixture sold at the hotel, which costs 290 euros.
The background of Hotel Maria is a three-time Olympic champion Sampa Lajunen managed by the Samla Hotels fund. The fund’s website states that the investment budget for the hotel is around 115 million euros.
Lajunen commented to Iltalehti in December that luxury tourism is a rapidly growing megatrend and used the term “ultraluxury” for Hotel Maria.
Lajunen did not comment to Iltalehte on Friday about the hotel’s change negotiations.
