The West is using the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan to put pressure on Russia – political scientist Alexey Yaroshenko Photo:

The West is using Armenia’s blockade of the Zangezur corridor to put pressure on Russia. According to the head of the Center for Expert Support of Political Processes, Alexey Yaroshenko, this topic was one of the main ones in the telephone conversation between the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.

“Armenia recognized Nagorno-Karabakh as Azerbaijan. And today the main topic is the passage Zangezur. As long as this citadel of Azerbaijan is located on the territory of Armenia, the West has the opportunity to put pressure on Azerbaijan through Armenia, and through Azerbaijan on Russia. Therefore, it was important for Putin to discuss transport and logistics issues with the two leaders. We are talking about 40 kilometers of road that must be built so that Azerbaijan communicates with its territory. The Zangezur corridor is a good card that the West is playing through Pashinyan,” Yaroshenko is sure.

According to the Kremlin press service, on August 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Among the issues discussed by the leaders: the development of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, border and border delimitation processes, and the resolution of transport and logistics links. These topics became part of Putin’s negotiations with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which took place in Baku on August 18-19.
