New York | “Short ‘N Sweet” Album: Sabrina Carpenter continues

In the song, Carpenter talks to an imaginary partner and explains her behavior with the sentence: “That’s me espresso”? As is so often the case in pop, the very good lines can only be translated inappropriately, here for example with “That’s the espresso kick I get”.

Carpenter is a rising star, but not an overnight success

Now Carpenter is releasing an album with “Short ‘N Sweet”. Undoubtedly, with 36 million Instagram followers and almost 2.5 billion views of her videos on YouTube, the singer is one of the top stars of the year. But anyone who looks at the details of the video platform may be surprised: her channel has been around since 2009. Of course, Carpenter’s career did not happen overnight by accident. She was a child star in the Disney universe years ago and first gained fame among teenage audiences in 2014 as the independent Maya in the series “Life and Riley”.

Victory thanks to the Miley Cyrus copy contest

She first gained attention five years earlier when she came third in the singing competition “The Next Miley Cyrus Project”. One thing Carpenter and the “Flowers” singer have in common is that they want and want to free themselves from the Disney image. Thanks to her role as Hannah Montana, Cyrus had to fight for a long time to be taken seriously as a singer, sometimes trying to draw attention to her with unusual behavior.

Fewer known scandals from Carpenter so far? What is certain, however, is that she is also definitely a product of the Disney machine, which has produced famous stars like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Olivia Rodrigo and Selena Gomez for decades.

Here’s what the new twelve albums look like

But what are the twelve tracks on the 36-minute “Short ‘N Sweet” like? Unfortunately, it often feels like an uninspired copy machine. The opener “Taste” and several other tracks are reminiscent of Taylor Swift in terms of vocal color, right down to the less orchestrated part with singing elements.

The single “Espresso” “Please Please Please” turns into a catchy tune with a well-flowing chorus, but it’s still not interesting for the full three minutes. However, Irish shooting star Barry Keoghan caused a stir in the accompanying music video – he and Carpenter have been seen together frequently in recent months, and rumors of a relationship were not long in coming.

The lyrics are definitely stronger, with Carpenter credited as the vocalist on all the songs. Beyond the “espresso” joke, you’ll hear a wink in many places. For example, she sings: “I heard you’re an actor, so play a steady one” or “I know you want fresh air, but the ceiling fan is so nice .”
