Petr Fiala’s cabinet approved the so-called flex amendment to the Labor Code on Wednesday. It is primarily intended to make the conditions for work during parental leave more flexible, to merge the reasons for termination in the event of loss of medical capacity into one category, and also introduces the possibility of going to a part-time job from the age of fourteen.
The Prime Minister described the Flexi amendment as important from the point of view of the labor market and prosperity. “The labor market is rigid, which is pointed out by both employers and experts. The amendment is very reasonable, I think, for everyone’s benefit,” he mentioned.

But the coalition did not find agreement on the dismissal without giving a reason, which Fial’s ODS is promoting. Mainly the People’s Party, led by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Marian Jurečka, opposes it. Fiala hopes that it will still be possible to convince the coalition colleagues. He rejects fears that this will worsen employee security and complicate life. According to him, the employee is sufficiently protected by receiving severance pay in the amount of six to seven salaries. And that should enable him to cope well with the situation.
“There is a shortage of labor in our labor market, not jobs,” concluded the prime minister.
