Cristo Redentor Pass reopens after two days of closure due to bad weather and snowfall

After two days of closure due to snowfall in the high mountains, the Christ the Redeemer Step reopened this morning, but with a slightly delayed schedule. On Wednesday, Chilean authorities announced that the international tunnel would reopen at 10 a.m., after coordinators in the neighboring country requested a delay to ensure that international route 60 was in condition for vehicles to transit safely.

The delay was due to a request from Chilean coordinators to verify the conditions of the route before giving the go-ahead for reopening. “International Route 60 was not yet in a condition for vehicles to travel safely,” explained a representative of the Chilean authorities.

The trucks are still waiting sweetly.

Despite the delay, the crossing to Chile will operate normally from today until the end of the month, according to Argentine coordinator Justo José Báscolo. Winter hours will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the barrier closing in Uspallata at 7 p.m. and the road closing at 6 p.m. Old Guard.

Conditions are not favorable in high mountains.

However, the National Weather Service He predicted that unstable weather conditions will continue until Friday at noon at Paso Cristo Redentor, which does not rule out a new preventive closure until conditions improve.

As of Friday afternoon, the weather is expected to be stable and snow-free, which could mark an end to the closure of the pass.
