KITZBÜHEL. Traditionally, the Kitzbühel Film Festival, which takes place this year from August 19 to 25, 2024, is not only a magnet for cineastes and actors. At the think tank events on August 23 and 24, 2024, producers, experts and high-ranking representatives of broadcasters and public bodies will meet to discuss current topics in the unique ambience of the Tyrolean Alps. In contrast to numerous industry events, the panel discussions at the Kitzbühel Film Festival are open to the public and offer interested parties the opportunity to find out first-hand about the future of the film and television industry.
Artificial intelligence in film production
Friday, August 23, 2024, 11:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
Hotel Rasmushof
This year’s think tank will kick off with an in-depth look at the status quo and future possibilities of artificial intelligence in film production. This is one of the leading industries in the use of artificial intelligence – partly due to increasing cost pressure and staff shortages. After a live demonstration of Open AI, Tobias Huber (Storybook Studios), Oliver Schütte (lecturer, dramaturge, publicist and producer) and Stefan Sporn (media and copyright expert) will address, among other things, ethical and legal limits for the use of artificial intelligence under the moderation of Michael Paul (Paul and Collegen Consulting). For example, they will examine the question of whether the revival of deceased personalities and actors or the use of body models is (morally) justifiable or analyze creative possibilities and factual limits when dubbing with original voices. On the podium, they will talk about new tools and trends and discuss their influence on production processes and quality. They provide practical tips on how production companies can best use artificial intelligence without neglecting artistic skills and traditional techniques. Also on the agenda are the impact on the job profile and future training requirements.
Proof of Concepts: New film financing and funding models for the DACH region
Friday, August 23, 2024, 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Hotel Rasmushof
The massive upheaval in the film and television landscape due to new players and streaming models, growing cost pressure and the enormous financial power of international providers are posing new challenges to existing funding and financing models. It will be essential to maintain and expand a broad production scene with corresponding content diversity and associated positive economic effects. While Austria has already implemented groundbreaking models with “FISA+” and “ÖFI+” and Switzerland with “Investment Obligation”, a new film funding law is currently being negotiated in Germany. Against this background, the Kitzbühel Film Festival’s think tank is discussing possible effects on co-productions in the DACH region and analyzing what lessons can be learned from the respective national models.
Björn Böhning (Alliance of German Producers for Film and Television), Christoph Neracher (Hugofilm) and Sylvia Vana (Federal Ministry of Labour and Economics) discuss with Michael Paul (Paul and Collegen Consulting) how film funding in Germany, Austria and Switzerland will continue to look good in the future.
Securing public broadcasting: relevant and exciting content as a success factor
Saturday, August 24, 2024, 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Start house at Hahnenkamm
Austria is considered an international role model for cooperation between public and private broadcasters. This is not only practiced at the 4GAMECHANGERS Festival, but has been a reality on viewers’ screens on the superstreamer Joyn for just over a year. At the Kitzbühel Film Festival, a high-profile expert forum is discussing the future of public broadcasting and questioning, among other things, traditional beliefs, future content and channel strategies, partnerships with private broadcasters and innovative models of cooperation with the production industry. The discussion will also focus on the question of how public broadcasters can maintain and expand their high relevance and which topics they should actively pursue to achieve this.
In the Starthaus on the Hahnenkamm, program directors Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz (ORF) and Christine Strobl (ARD) discuss key issues regarding the future of public broadcasters with Markus Breitenecker (ProSiebenSat.1 Media) and Nico Grein (RTL Deutschland). The conversation, with a view of the Kitzbühel Alps, is moderated by Michael Paul (Paul and Collegen Consulting).
Participation in the events is possible after prior registration by e-mail to [email protected] for free.
