A California restaurant is in trouble after allegedly serving wine instead of apple juice to a two-year-old girl.
The child spent the evening of August 17 in hospital with a dangerous level of alcohol in his blood, according to his parents.
Noemi Valencia and her partner were eating at Fujiyama Japanese restaurant in Salinas, California, when she noticed a change in her daughter’s behavior.
“She was rocking, she was falling, she was leaning on the walls, she couldn’t lift her head and she was having trouble speaking,” the mother told KSBW 8.
It was by sniffing the contents of her daughter’s glass that she determined that it contained alcohol.
The worried parents rushed the child to the emergency room where it was determined she had twice the legal blood alcohol limit for adults.
A restaurant manager reportedly said a waiter served the alcoholic beverage to the toddler after finding it in a container that was identified as apple juice, the TV station reported.
A police investigation is underway to shed light on this incident.
