Several football stars expected in Togo for Adebayor’s Jubilee –

Former Togo Hawks captain Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor is set to officially end his career in October 2024. The star striker announced on Tuesday that he will host a three-day event in Lome, Togo, which will culminate in a jubilee match at the Stade de Kégué.

“Experience three days of activities and a grand finale gala match at the Stade de Kégué. Joy and emotion to share together from October 25 to 27, 2024,” said Adebayor.

According to sources, Adebayor has invited several football legends to take part in the jubilee match, including Augustine Jay-Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Samuel Eto’o, Abedi Pele and Didier Drogba.

In addition, renowned European stars such as Ronaldinho, winner of the 2005 Ballon d’Or, and Thierry Henry, former Arsenal striker, are also expected to attend the event.

Adebayor’s stellar 21-year career came to an unofficial end after he left Turkish club İstanbul Başakşehir in 2020. He went on to play for some of the world’s biggest clubs, including AS Monaco, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and even spent a short six-month loan spell at Real Madrid.

The Togolese footballer officially announced his retirement in 2023 after terminating his contract with Togolese club Semassi, without having played a single match for two years.

Adebayor has left an indelible mark on Togolese football. He scored 32 goals in 87 caps, playing a key role in Togo’s historic qualification for their first and only FIFA World Cup in 2006. In 2008, during his time at Arsenal, he was voted African Player of the Year, despite Togo’s absence from the Africa Cup of Nations that year.
